Outreach
Public engagement, knowledge exchange, and science communication on environmental crime, marine harm, ecological justice, and ocean governance.
Outreach and knowledge exchange
My outreach work connects academic research with public institutions, environmental organisations, professionals, students, the media, and communities affected by social and ecological challenges.
I understand knowledge exchange as a two-way process. Research can contribute evidence, concepts, and analytical tools to public debate, professional practice, and environmental policy. At the same time, the experience of institutions, practitioners, organisations, and local communities can identify problems that require further academic attention.
My principal areas of public engagement include green and blue criminology, environmental criminal law, marine pollution, ecological justice, ocean governance, climate change, and the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems.
Public engagement initiatives
Jean Monnet Chair for EU BlueCrime and Ocean Governance
The Jean Monnet Action EU BlueCrime and Ocean Governance (EU BLUECRIME-GOV) supports teaching, research, and public engagement on European Union environmental criminal law, maritime governance, marine protection, and ocean-related environmental harm.
The Chair is designed to connect academic work with legal and policy debates on environmental crime, coastal risk, marine ecosystems, and European approaches to ocean governance.
Aula IbizaPreservation de Criminalidad Azul
The Aula is a collaborative platform for research, education, professional training, and public engagement concerning crime, harm, and governance in marine environments.
Its activities address issues such as illegal fishing, marine pollution, wildlife trafficking, underwater noise, pressures on Posidonia oceanica, environmental compliance, and the effects of human activity on aquatic ecosystems.
Blue Governance Laboratory (BlueGovLab)
BlueGovLab supports interdisciplinary collaboration on ocean governance, marine biodiversity, environmental protection, maritime security, and public policy.
Its knowledge-exchange activities connect researchers from different disciplines with public authorities, civil-society organisations, environmental professionals, and actors working in the blue economy.
Legal and Criminological Clinic
From 2023 to September 2026, I directed the Legal and Criminological Clinic at Universitat Jaume I. The Clinic linked university teaching and research with real legal, criminological, and social needs through supervised projects developed in cooperation with public institutions, professionals, foundations, and civil-society organisations.
Its activities promoted practical learning, professional responsibility, access to knowledge, environmental justice, and engagement with communities and groups facing situations of vulnerability.
Media and public conversations
My research has also been shared through interviews, podcasts, press articles, radio programmes, television appearances, and public conversations on marine harm, ecological justice, green and blue criminology, and environmental governance.
Because these activities are extensive and regularly updated, they are best presented in a dedicated archive. A complete record of media collaborations is available on the Media and public engagement archive.
Events and professional engagement
Foro Marino Ibiza and Formentera
I contribute to the Foro Marino through talks, scientific coordination, and interdisciplinary panels on marine protection, environmental crime, ocean governance, and the conservation of Posidonia oceanica.
These activities bring together researchers, environmental organisations, public authorities, professionals, and members of the wider community to discuss practical responses to pressures affecting the Mediterranean Sea.
Blue Criminology and Marine Protection
This interdisciplinary programme addresses blue criminology, marine environmental protection, ecological evidence, and the legal and governance challenges surrounding Posidonia oceanica.
Professional training on marine protection
I participate in specialised training activities concerning environmental enforcement, marine ecosystem protection, legal developments, ecological evidence, and coordination between public administrations.
Invited talks and seminars
I regularly contribute to public lectures, university seminars, professional meetings, scientific conferences, and training sessions on green criminology, ecocide, marine environmental crime, planetary boundaries, climate change, and ecological justice.
Working with society
My knowledge-exchange activities involve collaboration with universities, public administrations, environmental foundations, civil-society organisations, legal and criminological professionals, security practitioners, and marine-conservation specialists.
These collaborations include professional training, public seminars, technical reports, applied research, educational activities, communication of scientific findings, and the development of evidence-informed recommendations for institutions and organisations.
I am particularly interested in collaborations that connect legal and criminological analysis with ecological knowledge and local experience, especially where they can contribute to preventing environmental harm and improving marine governance.
